What’s New: App Builder with Smarter AI Features, ApexCharts, Pivot Grid Enhancements, & More
It’s release time! This App Builder update brings AI-powered features, new visualization tools, and smoother data handling. ApexCharts lets you create interactive charts right in the platform, while Pivot Grid auto-generates pivot views from your data. See it all in action.
Our August App Builder release brings powerful AI features, visualization components, easier data handling, and improved user interactions to your design-to-code workflow. With ApexCharts now available in the component toolbox, you can turn raw data into dynamic, interactive charts without leaving the platform. The Pivot Grid takes efficiency a step further by automatically generating dimensions and values from your data fields, giving you a ready-to-use pivot view in seconds. For smoother UI experiences, we’ve added a Selected List Item feature that applies styling and stores chosen values, plus new Empty Grid and Loading Indicator templates to provide meaningful feedback when working with data grids.

Before diving into these new functionalities, if this is your first time learning about App Builder, let me quickly share why you should consider it a key tool in the application development process for your organization:
- A visual app builder – the unified platform for C-level executives, enterprise architects, dev team leaders, designers, developers, and stakeholders.
- Cloud-based WYSIWYG drag & drop tool that helps companies design and build complete business apps 80% faster than ever.
- A low-code tool generates production-ready code for Angular, React, Web Components, and Blazor, and converts Figma designs to code.
This time, I’ll start with what’s new from an AI perspective in App Builder.
Boost Productivity with Smarter AI Features
This release brings several enhancements that make app generation faster, more precise, and easier to interact with. From cleaner output structures to new ways to generate views and themes, the AI features now integrate more seamlessly into your workflow.
Better Structured App Output
AI-generated apps now come with improved layout, component organization, and content structure. This means that your generated apps require less manual cleanup, allowing you to focus on refining design and logic rather than fixing inconsistencies.

Keyboard Shortcuts & Confirmation Dialogs
Productivity and safety get a boost with keyboard shortcuts for the AI chat panel and design area:
- Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + C – Start a new chat in the current view
- Ctrl/Cmd + Alt + C – Start a new chat in a new view
- F2 – Rename selected history item
- Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + A – Open the GenAI panel from anywhere in the design area
In addition, destructive actions, such as deleting a chat step or an entire session, now trigger confirmation dialogs, preventing accidental data loss and aligning AI behavior with the rest of the platform.
Generate Views from Images
You can now upload one or more images and let AI generate corresponding app views automatically. This feature streamlines design workflows, transforming visual assets into functional app layouts in seconds.

AI-Powered Theme Management
Creating and updating themes is now easier with AI assistance. App Builder can generate, modify, and delete themes based on your input, helping you maintain consistent branding and style across your applications.
Prompt: “change the colors of this view to be autumn based”

Smarter Data Source Generation
AI now produces more accurate data sources for components like Grids and Data Charts, reducing setup time and making generated apps immediately functional.
Prompt: “I’m creating an internal dashboard for our logistics company to track daily shipments, warehouse inventory, and delivery performance. I need a page that displays KPIs, charts, and tables in a clean and organized way, with quick filters for date ranges and shipment status. It should give managers an at-a-glance overview of business performance..”

Speech-to-Text for AI Prompts
Interacting with AI is even more intuitive with speech-to-text support. Click the microphone button in the prompt area, speak your instructions, and watch them transcribe directly into the text field, perfect for hands-free workflow or rapid idea capture.

Visualize Data Instantly with ApexCharts
App Builder now includes ApexCharts in the component toolbox, giving you a wide range of interactive and data-rich chart types right at your fingertips. Whether you need to display performance trends, distribution breakdowns, or financial insights, ApexCharts helps you transform raw data into engaging visual stories without leaving the design surface.
With support for popular chart types like Line, Area, Bar, Column, Funnel, Pie, Donut, Heatmap, Radar, PolarArea, and advanced options such as Candlestick, Box Plot, Range Charts, Scatter, and Bubble, you can cover nearly every visualization need. Each chart can be easily bound to your data source and styled through App Builder’s property panel, with Angular and React code generation supported out of the box.
Here’s ApexCharts in action:

Pivot Smarter with Auto-Generated Views
Configuring a Pivot Grid is now easier than ever. Instead of manually defining rows, dimensions, and values, App Builder automatically generates the pivot view based on the data source you connect. Simply drop a Pivot Grid onto your canvas, bind it to your data, and the layout is created for you.
This means:
- Faster setup
- Fewer configuration steps
- And instant insight into your data.
You can always refine the layout later, but the auto-generation gives you a functional starting point that saves time and boosts productivity.

Improve UX with Selected List Item Functionality
Lists in App Builder just got more interactive. With list item selection support, you can now create dynamic, stateful lists where selected items are styled consistently and their values stored for later use. This feature is available on data-bound Lists. If your List items are manually declared, the “Enable item selection” option will not be applicable. This opens up scenarios like:
- Highlighting a chosen stock in a portfolio
- Marking an active customer in a directory
- Or building simple selection-based workflows
In addition, the selection state can be bound to variables, making it easy to reuse and apply in other parts of your application logic.
Here’s how list selection works in practice:

Bring Your Grids to Life with Empty & Loading Templates
Grids now support two new states designed to improve user feedback: the Empty Grid Template and the Loading Indicator Template. These states let you inform users when there’s no data to display or when data is actively being fetched.
- Empty Grid Template: Configure a placeholder with text, icons, or images when no records are returned perfect for dynamic queries that may return zero results.

- Loading Indicator Template: Show a loading UI while async data calls are in progress, providing clear feedback during wait times.

Both templates are configurable in the App Builder Properties Panel and supported across Data Grid, Tree Grid, Hierarchical Grid, and Row Islands. While the isLoading
flag must be set manually after code generation, App Builder handles the design-time setup so you can focus on customizing the user experience.
Wrap Up…
May’s release reflects our ongoing commitment to delivering scalable, modern app experiences in App Builder. Whether you’re designing complex data grids, enforcing robust validation rules, or streamlining DevOps workflows, this update gives you the tools to move faster and build better.
